Tus cuevas guardan voces aborígenes
y silencios en tus escarpados refugios.
Cada brizna de nube que roza tu frente
es el brinco callado de tu esperanza.
Que la lluvia se desplome enloquecida.
Cien días y cien noches incesante.
Y tu cauce, sea agua desbocada,
retumbar volcánico de latidos.
Y entonces a alcanzar la mar
y soltar los secretos que guardas
de guanches, mineros del agua,
mujeres de cestas a la cabeza,
perseguidos y viajeros.
Aunque sepas que las olas no te esperan.
Y tú, barranco solitario, nunca serás río
ni sabrás que tus palabras en versos navegan.

Your caves keep aboriginal voices
and silences in your steep shelters.
Every wisp of cloud that brushes your forehead
is the quiet leap of your hope.
Let the rain fall madly.
Non-stop, one hundred days
and one hundred nights.
And your channel, be runaway water,
volcanic rumbling of heartbeats.
And then reach the sea
and release the secrets you keep
from guanches, water miners,
women with baskets on their heads,
the oppressed and the travelers.
Even if you know
that the waves are not waiting for you.
And you, lonely ravine, will never be a river
nor will you know that your words
in verses sail.

Le tue grotte custodiscono voci aborigeni
e silenzi nei tuoi rifugi inclinati.
Ogni filo di nuvola che ti sfiora la fronte
è il balzo silenzioso della tua speranza.
Lascia che la pioggia cada pazzesca.
Cento giorni e cento notti incessante.
E il tuo canale, sia acqua sfrenata,
rombo vulcanico dei battiti del cuore.
E poi raggiungere il mare
e liberare i segreti che custodisci
ai guanci, ai minatori d’acqua,
alle donne con le ceste in testa,
ai perseguitati e ai viandanti.
Anche se sai che le onde non ti aspettano.
